Theology: Understanding the Synoptic Issue of the Gospels.

First of all, Mark and Luke were not disciples. Matthew and John were but did not compose gospels. Mark came from his travels with Peter and contain the preaching of Peter. Mark's gospel was the first, and he received his material from the Preaching of Peter and the Q document. Luke's material came about from Luke being a companion of Paul, and the material of Mark. Matthew's gospel came from his community and was compiled by some of his followers and contains material from Mark. John's gospel did not come about until much later (the beginning of the second century Anno Dominus), and this was completely unique. The Gospel originated in Ephesus and came from the teaching of John's community. This is why the gospels do not sync to one account.
